A Civic Centerpiece
A Place for the Many Faces of Our Community
LibraryPark will foster dialogue, learning and exchange within our community. The new library will include expanded computer resources and provide programs for strengthening language and communication skills. New residents will find help in securing social services such as housing, health care providers and child care; and becoming established in our community.
A Place to Celebrate the LGBT Community
A special component of the new library will be an extensive collection of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) literature, history and personal materials.
For people living with HIV/AIDS, LibraryPark will include an expanded Ron Shipton HIV Information Center, offering current and accurate HIV and AIDS education materials in a setting that respects privacy. Our library's current collection of 4,050 books of LGBT literature, history and personal materials will grow by 154 percent and the library’s increased space will offer an opportunity for the acquisition of other significant collections.
A Place That Expands Green Space and Demonstrates Our Environmental Values
LibraryPark will be the community center and civic commons that West Hollywood deserves. Specially designed areas will be available for public proclamations, celebrations, fairs and festivals, as well as smaller events that occur on a regular basis.
LibraryPark is being designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certification, and will add 2.5 acres of green space to West Hollywood Park.
A Place for Jobseekers and the Business Community
LibraryPark will fill important needs for employers and jobseekers. The Wells Fargo Career Development Center will provide resources for local startup businesses and community development advocates, including assistance in learning entrepreneurial skills and discovering methods of raising capital. For people seeking work or a career change, the library can help open doors to employers and specialized job training.
A Place for Lifelong Learning
Adults will find our new library to be a road to personal development, adventure and a richer life. Lectures, author readings and exhibits will be a major component of the library's programs.
A Place for Communication and Discovery
By offering free access to computers, LibraryPark will bring opportunity to all. The Stuart Feigin Technology Area will offer Internet-equipped computers along with copiers, printers and fax machines placed throughout the library.
A Place for West Hollywood History and Culture
LibraryPark will serve as a steward of local history and a repository of our community's collective memory. In addition to housing archives and historical collections, the library will engage people of all ages through storytelling, multicultural festivities, and exhibits celebrating many cultures.
A Place Where Learning Comes Alive for Children and Young Adults
LibraryPark will provide a window on the world for children and young adults. The children's area will feature a theater-within-a-library for storytelling, puppet shows and library fun. A separate young adult section will provide space for teens to work and learn together. The new library will give our children a place to develop a love of reading, a quest for knowledge and a thirst for lifelong learning.
Please join us today and support LibraryPark - a place like no other.
